8 Common Remote Desktop Connection and Screen Issues (With Fixes)

I recently got a laptop and bought a 32″ monitor to hook up to it to use as my main monitor. At work, I have dual screens that are both 24″. I figured I could mimic that with a 32″ at home. I’ve asked my IT Help Desk about this and they said it was a resolution issue, but anyway here it goes Whenever I try to RDP, I can see the log in screens and the cursor, but it will not allow me to click using the cursor.

The keyboard works as in I can tab and enter to get through the login options but I cannot use the cursor. My laptop has resolution of by The 32″ resolution is by But at work the resolutions are by All are using Windows IT said to change my resolution to match work.

If I change my home resolutions, everything seems to work ok except I can no longer use my 32″ for my dual purposes as one window will take up the whole screen but not really the whole screen I guess just the by area – the rest is not useable.

Defeats the purpose of having the 32″ monitor. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. I apologize for the delayed response. Vacation then sick baby. I tried your suggestion. Hello slottem, I am Matt, an Independent Advisor and a specialist technician. I would like to assist you with this and hopefully I can help you to resolve this issue promptly.

Not sure if this will work but have you tried right clicking the title bar of “Remote Desktop Connection” The blue part at the top of your screen that shows the connection name and try using “Smart Sizing” if it is already on try turning it off, this may give you scroll bars though.

Note: Right clicking the title bar does not work when it is in full screen so first make sure you are in windows mode. It definitely sounds like a resolution issue, I think maybe smart sizing in combination with changing screen resolution may help you find a workable solution to this issue.

I really hope this helps, let me know if I can be of more assistance. Have a great day. Kind Regards,. Thanks for your feedback. How satisfied are you with this reply?
